America has had many controversial pardons on offenders. But this is just one of the most controversial, with it attached to the highest order of social discourse.
When President Donald Trump pardoned Sherriff Joe Arpaio a few days ago, hell broke loose. Many citizens appeared to riot on the streets with their question being just how low can the serving president go in terms of denying them the justice that they are entitled to.
If you have been keen on the issues of immigrants at the County of Maricopa, then Joe Arpaio must be a familiar name. He goes down in the books of history as a self-proclaimed individual who fought for Americans by illegally, locking down immigrants. In Arizona, especially, Joe Arpaio mistreated Latinos. His heinous acts include the illegal arrest of the prominent Village Media owners, Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin.
The Back Story of How They Were Arrested
About ten years ago, in the cold night of Maricopa County, Lacey and Larkin received guests who arrived at their homes in black USV’s. The visit was unannounced hence they were caught unawares. In confusion, the duo was hauled by the Maricopa agents.
They were driven to the police station and locked behind bars. Surprisingly, they were not given the exact details of their arrest. Even after struggling to resist the arrest, the duo was locked away.
Reason for Arrest
Apparently, Sherriff Joe Arpaio was behind their arrest. According to Joe Arpaio, Lacey and Larkin deserved the treatment they were receiving. First of all, because the duo had facilitated the writing of articles that pinpointed Joe’s sins.
Secondly, the pair was working with the same jury that worked with Joe Arpaio. Unknown to them, the jury was investigating them. The investigation was significant to the point of checking their IP addresses and browsing history.
Joe is exposed
The mentioned instances were not all according to Joe Arpaio. Initially, he was exposed to several coverages hence his frustrations. Also, he was discussed as being overly aggressive to his deputies and inmates. In fact, his aggression pushed some inmates to commit suicide. On matters of immigrants, Joe Arpaio was unfair to Latinos. Even when there was no evidence of being offenders, Joe Arpaio locked them up.
Severally, was Joe Arpaio told that he should not lock such people down as they were not offenders. Severally did he dismiss the court’s instruction. Unknowing to him, these instances counted during his recent arrest. Read more: Village Voice Media | Wikipedia and Michael Lacey | Facebook
